The DVI to HDMI converter combines the HD video signal from a DVI connection plus a separate digital audio signal; encoding them into one digital HDMI output for use with HDMI supported displays and devices.

Sky+HD boxes are only capable of outputting 5.1 DD surround sound via the optical connection, they do not transmit multi-channel audio over the HDMI output. Our DVI to HDMI with Audio converter is perfect for combining the HD video and multi-channel audio onto a single HDMI signal.

This device eliminates the need for running two separate cables (1x Video and 1x Audio) to a display when connecting a DVI source, such as a computer or other device. Two short length cables can be connected to the converter unit’s inputs with just one longer HDMI cable connected from the output on the unit to the display.
The unit also encompasses SPDIF/optical audio input connections so that audio can be transmitted via the HDMI output also. The unit encodes digital audio onto the video signal for a complete HDMI output signal comprising of both digital video and audio.

The converter unit is small, compact in robust design. The metal casing and superior build-quality of this converter makes it perfect for both professional and home users.

Absolutely zero data loss will occur through the use of this converter. For the best performance, we recommend that you use our HDMI cables with this product.

When would I need to use this type of DVI to HDMI Converter?

When a display device does not incorporate a DVI input, but does have HDMI connectivity, this converter unit is ideal for enabling the images produced via a DVI connection + the audio signals normally transmitted through a separate cable to joined together on one HDMI connection. Most commonly, this unit is used in conference room presentation, school classroom and corporate training environment set-ups. People with older PCs and laptops that only have a DVI output also use this unit to run their computer image through their home HDTV. This has become an even more popular application for the unit since the BBC’s iPlayer and other internet based TV channel catch up services have been launched.

What devices will this converter unit work with?

This converter unit can be connected between any source device outputting images via DVI and any HDMI supported display device. Any digital coax or optical audio output can be connected to the unit for that audio signal to be laid over the visual signal provided by the DVI cable. Most commonly the unit is used with laptops, PCs, media set-ups, hard drive recorders, visual mixing and recording equipment, HDTVs, projectors, monitors and displays.

Can this converter be used with long HDMI cable lengths?

Yes. Although the unit does not amplify the HDMI signal, it will not affect the performance of the cable. We recommend using our HDMI cables with this product, available up to 15 metres in length. However, if your require cable runs longer than this there are additional options available to you. Most commonly, a HDMI extender/repeater block will extend the range of your cable run. For more specialist installations we also stock extra long active HDMI cables and HDMI over CAT5 solutions which can potentially allow your cable run to extend beyond 50 metres.
