What is eyefix™ technology?

The full title is… eyefix™ Signal Compensation & Correction Technology. All our infinius® Range switchers and splitters feature this technology to improve their signal integrity as it passes through the unit. To find out more, read the entire explanation below.

HDMI signal integrity is actively improved as it passes through the eyefix™ chipset built into an infinius® switcher or splitter unit.

To understand how eyefix™ works, we must first understand the make-up of a HDMI signal as it passes through a HDMI cable.

This is best explained using an eye pattern diagram, hence the name ‘eyefix’. An eye pattern diagram is a visual representation digital data bits flowing through a HDMI cable. It is called an eye pattern for obvious reasons. It essentially shows the quality of a digital HDMI signal.

In the diagram below you can see the eye pattern of a standard 1080p HD resolution signal produced by a HD source device such as a Blu-ray player. An open eye pattern corresponds to minimal signal distortion. With HDMI signals, this is what we are looking to achieve, the more open the eye is, the more precise the signal is reaching the image processor of the display device. A precise signal will be decoded easily by a display’s image processer, resulting in perfect picture performance.

Distortion of the signal waveform is common, can easily occur over long HDMI cable distances, interference and noise appears as closure of the eye pattern. This is certainly not what we want and not good, a closed eye makes it harder for image processors to decode the digital data effectively and can result in errors is your picture or even complete failure, eyefix™ technology effectively solves signal distortion and degradation that occurs over the majority of HDMI cable runs by compensating and correcting the signal, reviving it back to the wide open eye pattern signal quality that it had at the start of the cable run at the source device. Our diagram below gives a good visual reprentation of the technoligy and the effect it has on the HDMI signal:

The eyefix™ chipset compensates the "delay" of the HDMI signal so each frequency component arrives at the HD source at precisely the same time, it then goes through a re-levelling process and is finally amplified at the output connection.

The result…

The HD signal quality and transmission integrity leaving the infinius™ unit is as precise and as perfect as when it first left the HD source device, it is also amplified and boosted to improve transmission over long cable runs.
