The HIGH SPEED with ETHERNET for HDMI 1.4 Cable is the latest specification standard to be released by the HDMI Authority. It is important to consider that the specification applies to HDMI technology as a whole and not the connecting HDMI cable.

However, HDMI cables will be very important. HDMI 1.4 devices require a HDMI cable with substantial data throughput. There are two types of HDMI cable that will be compatible with the HDMI 1.4 spec devices. Officially certified HDMI cables should be labelled as follows:

• High Speed HDMI Cable (with Ethernet)
• High Speed HDMI Cable (without Ethernet)

The HDMI Consortium (HDMI Licensing, LLC) today announced the latest release of the HDMI Specification--HDMI Version 1.4.

The HDMI Specification Ver. 1.4 continues to enable its Adopters, such as www.HDCable.co.uk, to create innovative products that enhance the consumer’s HD experience.

The HDMI Specification Ver. 1.4 supports some of the most exciting and powerful near-term innovations, including the following:

• HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC) -Ethernet Connectivity
• Consolidates HD video, audio, and data in a single HDMI cable
• Enables high speed bi-directional communication
• Enables IP-based applications over HDMI
• Transfer speeds up to 100Mbps
• Audio Return Channel (ARC)
• “Upstream” audio connections
• Simplified audio connection between the TV and AVR
• Eliminates the need for an additional optical audio cable
• 3D over HDMI
• 3D support up to 1080p
• 4K x 2K Support
• Up to 4 times the resolution of 1080p (Same resolution as many state of the art digital theaters)

• New Connectors (19-pin Micro HDMI Connector for portable devices)
• Automotive Connection System enables HD for in-vehicle systems
