The HDMI Consortium (HDMI Licensing, LLC) today announced the latest release of the HDMI Specification--HDMI Version 1.4.
The HDMI Specification Ver. 1.4 supports some of the most exciting and powerful near-term innovations, including the following:
- HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC) -Ethernet Connectivity
- Consolidates HD video, audio, and data in a single HDMI cable
- Enables high speed bi-directional communication
- Enables IP-based applications over HDMI
- Transfer speeds up to 100Mbps
- Audio Return Channel (ARC)
- “Upstream” audio connections
- Simplified audio connection between the TV and AVR
- Eliminates the need for an additional optical audio cable
- 3D over HDMI
- 3D support up to 1080p
- 4K x 2K Support
- Up to 4 times the resolution of 1080p (Same resolution as many state of the art digital theaters)
- Additional color space support for digital still cameras
- New Connectors (19-pin Micro HDMI Connector for portable devices)
- Automotive Connection System enables HD for in-vehicle systems
